 December 2024 - Gwen and Jemma begin work on the Safe Music initiative.

January 20, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet on zoom to discuss Safe Music with Carolyn Christie (performance coach and retired OSM 2nd flute), Tamsin Johnston (OCSM 2nd vice-president), Jaime Martino (Executive Director of Tapestry Opera), and Rochelle Skolnick (American Federation of Musicians).

March 2025 - Jemma joins Mental Performance in the Arts Canada Webinar Committee (link) with Carolyn Christie (performance coach and retired OSM 2nd flute), Joanna Latala (Orchestral Cellist and Independent Performance Practice Researcher), Carlos Tinoco (PhD student in Interdisciplinary Research in Music, UOttawa), and Naoko Sakata (PhD student in Rehabilitation Sciences, UOttawa).

April 2025 - Jemma joins Sectoral Change Working Group with Allison Bent (Percussionist and Human Resources Manager), Katherine Carleton (Executive Director of Orchestras Canada), Sue Elliott (General Director and CEO of Calgary Opera), Christina Loewen (Executive Director of the Association for Opera in Canada), and Jaime Martino (Executive Director of Tapestry Opera).

April 6, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet with the Director of Early Learning, BC government, to discuss beginning steps for legislation of Safe Music.

May 11, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma lead a roundtable workshop on Safe Music at the Music and Health Research Institute Conference in Ottawa. In attendance were orchestral musicians, university professors, music therapists, freelance musicians, PhD students, and one of the chairs of the MHRI conference.

May 22, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet with Liz Muldoon and Sarah Bennett from Canada Safe Sport to better understand how Safe Sport came to be and how we can adapt their program for musicians. They graciously offered to remain in contact and provide guidance going forward.

June 13, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet with Senior Policy Advisor for the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Government of Canada, to discuss beginning steps for legislation of Safe Music.

June 17, 2025 - first meeting of monthly cohort for action toward the Safe Music initiative. In attendance: Jemma, Gwen, and David Owen (President of Atlantic Federation of Musicians). 

July 3, 2025 - Gwen, Jemma, and Christine Guptill (Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy UOttawa) meet to discuss updates from the June 17 meeting.

July 10, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet with the Eastern Union Locals (Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland & Labrador) for their regularly scheduled zoom call to present Safe Music. 

July 17, 2025 - second meeting of monthly cohort. In attendance: David Owen (President of Atlantic Federation of Musicians), Alex Conway (OCSM representative, Winnipeg Symphony), Christine Guptill (Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy, UOttawa). August 12, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma present Safe Music initiative at OCSM conference.

August 24, 2025 - third meeting of monthly cohort. In attendance: David Owen (President of Atlantic Federation of Musicians), Alex Conway (OCSM representative, Winnipeg Symphony), Jemma Jones, Gwen Klassen. Jemma and Rick Colburn meeting.

August 28, 2025 - Jemma meets with Rich Coburn to discuss Safe Music.

September 1, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma begin weekly subcommittee meetings.

September 15, 2025 - fourth meeting of monthly cohort. In attendance: Jaime Martino (ED Tapestry Opera), guest Marie-Elyse Badeau, Gwen, Jemma.

September 20, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma consultation meeting with Carolyn Christie.

September 23, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma on-boarding meeting with David Visentin, Victoria, BC.

October 10, 2025 - Gwen, Jemma, and Alex meet with Secretary-Treasurer of Manitoba Union Local to present Safe Music.

October 20, 2025 - fifth meeting of monthly cohort. In attendance: Alex Conway, David Owen, David Visentin, Gwen, Jemma.

October 22, 2025 - Gwen meets with Manitoba Union Local exec to present Safe Music. 

November 10, 2025 - Gwen, Jemma, and Jaime meet to discuss the intersection of Safe Music and Changing the Culture.

November 11, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma on-boarding meeting with Marlène Ngalissamy (Principal Bassoon, TSO) and Mikhailo Babiak (Principal Horn, OSQ).

November 16, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet with chair of Vancouver Musicians Association member engagement committee.

November 17, 2025 - sixth meeting of monthly cohort. In attendance: Christine Guptill, Jaime Martino, David Owen, David Visentin, Gwen, Jemma

November 17, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet with Vancouver Musicians Association exec to present Safe Music

November 18, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet with Safe Sport to discuss next steps of Safe Music.

November 18, 2025 - Gwen begins work on Safe Music website

November 22, 2025 - Jemma begins editing work on Safe Music website

November 25, 2025 - Gwen and Jemma meet with David V to discuss incorporating as a federal not-for-profit charity. 

December 1, 2025 - Website sent out to working group for edits/suggestion

December 15, 2025 - seventh meeting of monthly cohort to discuss website, amended Vision, Mission, Values and Goals

December 17, 2025 - Jemma, Gwen, Alex Conway (OCSM VP) David Owen (President of Atlantic Federation of Musicians) meet with Rochelle Skolnick and Richard Sandals; leaders of American Federation of Musicians and Canadian Federation of Musicians.

In the meantime we have provided access to support and research services on this website and
webinars and e-learning opportunities are on the way for 2026

We are very fortunate to have the mentorship of Sport Integrity Canada and Canada Safe Sport Program as we establish a similar program for Music and eventually all Arts in Canada
